1. Overview

Forensics Recorder is a macOS screen recording and evidence management tool. It helps users record selected windows or displays, capture screenshots, run local OCR on recorded videos, search recognized text, and optionally use cloud AI features for summary, transcription, and analysis.

We respect your privacy. The app does not record your screen, microphone, or files unless you start an action yourself.

2. Data We Process

Forensics Recorder may process the following data depending on the features you use:

1. Screen recordings selected and started by you.
2. Screenshots captured by you.
3. OCR text extracted locally from your recordings.
4. Search keywords entered by you.
5. Optional AI prompts and OCR text submitted by you for cloud AI summary, transcription, or analysis.
6. App settings such as save location, language, recording quality, and AI model settings.
7. App Store purchase status and in-app purchase information provided by Apple.

3. Local Storage

Recordings, screenshots, OCR indexes, and AI result history are stored locally on your Mac.

By default, the App Store version stores recordings in the app container. If you choose an external save folder, the app stores a security-scoped bookmark so it can continue accessing that folder after restart.

OCR index data is local and rebuildable. You can clear OCR cache in the app settings.

4. Screen Recording Permission

The app requests Screen Recording permission only to capture the window or display you choose. The app does not record in the background without your action.

5. Microphone and Audio Permission

The app requests audio permission only when you enable audio recording. If audio recording is disabled, the app does not capture microphone or system audio.

6. Accessibility Permission

The optional auto-scroll feature may request Accessibility permission. This permission is used to send user-initiated scroll events to the selected target window during recording. The app does not use Accessibility permission to read private content from other apps.

7. OCR Processing

OCR processing is performed locally on your Mac. The app extracts frames from your recordings and recognizes text locally to build a searchable index. OCR results are not uploaded unless you explicitly use a cloud AI feature that requires sending text for analysis.

8. Cloud AI Features

Cloud AI features are optional. When you choose AI summary, transcription, or analysis, the app may send relevant OCR text and your prompt to the configured cloud AI service. The app does not upload full video files for AI analysis. Cloud AI requests are based on text content extracted from OCR or entered by you.

Please avoid submitting sensitive information to cloud AI services unless you are authorized to do so.

9. Payments and In-App Purchases

The App Store version uses Apple In-App Purchase for subscriptions and AI Credits. Payment processing is handled by Apple. We do not receive or store your full payment card information. The app may read purchase status from StoreKit to unlock subscribed features or AI Credits.

10. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We may share data only in the following cases:

1. With Apple for App Store purchases and subscription status.
2. With cloud AI providers only when you explicitly use cloud AI features.
3. When required by law or legal process.

11. Data Retention and Deletion

Your recordings, screenshots, OCR indexes, and AI history are stored locally and remain under your control. You can delete recordings and clear OCR caches from the app or Finder. If you use cloud AI features, data retention by the AI provider may be governed by that provider's policies.

12. Children

Forensics Recorder is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Updates will be reflected by changing the effective date.
